The Sterile Devil

One day a peddler who thought me one damned fool
Said he was working his way through theological school.
He stood at my mind’s front door praising a machine
Nicknamed “The Sterile Devil” that would clean
Any dirt. He looked through the doorways left and right
And said my front rooms were all orderly and bright
But probably he’d find much dirt in every back room.
I told him the mind not dirty has a vacuum.
